Where the Field Refuses is an abstract mixed-media painting in which gestures, lines, and areas of color interact across an open ground. Subtle rhythms emerge as marks assert themselves, interrupt one another, and shift direction across the surface. Rather than resolving into a balanced composition, the painting was deliberately stopped at a moment of suspended energy, allowing movement, resistance, and quiet tension to remain present.
abstract expressionism, contemporary gestural abstraction, expressive mark-making, suspended gesture, unresolved composition, raw emotional energy, instinctive painting process, interruption and restraint, non-representational art
