I initially worked on this painting vertically, but after turning it, the composition opened up in a completely different way. The large area of colour now pushes in from the right, while smaller fragments hold their place across the rest of the paper.
I like that the painting never settles into a comfortable balance. It remains open, active and slightly off-centre.
