Some paintings find their balance through restraint; this one needed to remain unruly. Dense passages of olive green, ochre, deep red and black gather across the surface, while scattered lines and fragments move outward into the paler areas. The open space keeps the composition from closing in, allowing its energy to remain restless but held.

Created as part of my ongoing studio practice, this independent artwork reflects a process of layering, revision and decision-making in which each gesture responds to what came before.
