In Nothing Stays Where It Began, painted and drawn passages appear across the surface without settling around a single centre. Dense areas of burgundy, ochre, olive and black are separated by pale expanses in which lines, erased marks and fragments remain visible.
The painting developed through repeated additions, interruptions and partial removals. Some areas gather weight while others disperse into the paper, allowing the eye to find several routes through the work. The composition remains open and unsettled, held together by connections that are sometimes forceful and sometimes barely there.
